Building for the Future: Mark becomes a certified Passive House Tradesperson

At Freedom Built, our mission has always been simple – to build homes that stand the test of time, crafted with care, precision, and purpose.
Today, we are proud to share a new milestone in that journey. Our Director, Mark, has officially achieved the status of Certified Passive House Tradesperson, an internationally-recognised credential administered by the Passive House Institute.

What this certification means
The Passive House standard is about more than insulation or airtightness, it’s a science-backed, holistic approach to construction that ensures homes stay comfortable year-round, dramatically reduce energy use, and provide cleaner, healthier indoor air for families. The Tradesperson qualification ensures that the on-site build team has the detailed know-how to deliver these outcomes. According to PHI:
- Skilled tradespeople who achieve this certificate understand the interrelationships and interdependencies of building components in a Passive House build.
- The certification is awarded after successful completion of training and an exam.
In short: Having this certification means Mark (and by extension our team) is professionally equipped with the practical skills, technical understanding and quality-assurance mindset needed to deliver homes that not just look good, but perform beautifully.
What this means for Freedom Built and our clients
With Mark’s certification now secured, you can expect to see his expertise influencing every Freedom Built project across Canberra and the surrounding region:
- Even tighter control over thermal-bridge details, airtightness, and material selection.
- Greater clarity on how building services, envelope design and ventilation systems integrate to deliver healthier indoor environments and lower energy use.
- Reinforced confidence in delivering homes that meet the high performance expectations we set for ourselves – homes that are built with heart and built to last.
Looking ahead
This achievement marks another step in our ongoing commitment to innovation, sustainability and building with heart. We believe that craftsmanship isn’t just about what you see, it’s about what you don’t see: the air-seals, the insulation continuity, the detailing that makes a house a home for decades.
We thank Mark for his dedication to professional growth and our team for supporting this journey. As always: we build with care, pride, and purpose.
